It reminds us of the enduring nature of certain things and serves as a reminder of the importance of persistence, loyalty, and dedication invarious aspects of life.
In the context of philanthropy, Siempre embodies this notion. We have all been told that if we have the resources to make a difference to always do so, my goal is to help you strategically make a difference forever.
Throughout his career, Darrell has advised hundreds of individuals on how to make the most of their philanthropic impact within education. He joined Nazareth University as Vice President for Advancement in May 2021, following more than 23 years of advancement experience with public and private institutions of higher education. Prior to joining Nazareth, Darrell served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Roberts Wesleyan University and Northeastern Seminary and held advancement roles at several highly regarded research universities, including University of Rochester, Carnegie Mellon University and University of Pittsburgh. His breadth of experience spans across various areas of advancement but his expertise is geared towards diversity initiatives, front line fundraising, annual giving, capital campaigns and management.
As Vice President, Darrell provides overall leadership for the University development and alumni/constituent affairs programs. He oversees six departments, numerous volunteers and 20 professional and support staff in Advancement. He works with and through others to plan and implement strategies and tactical approaches to fundraising and external relations encompassing the areas of annual giving, major and planned gifts, corporate, government and foundation relations, programming, communications, parent relations and alumni relations. Darrell is responsible for strategic and operational advancement planning for both yearly and extended multi-year development initiatives, including comprehensive, capital and endowment campaigns, related special projects and events. He interfaces with and supports the Board of Trustees, especially its advancement committee, and volunteers. Darrell also interfaces with the college’s senior faculty and staff and assists with development of the strategic plan. He is a member of the President's Cabinet and participates in key decisions with University leadership. Over his last 7 years as a Higher Education Administrator, Darrell has been appointed as the first Vice President of color in the history of Roberts Wesleyan University and the first male Vice President of color in the history of Nazareth College.
Darrell volunteers his time and talents to local organizations including Leadership Rochester, Champion Academy and the Genesee Valley Club. Mr. Bell also serves as an Associate for Aspen Leadership Group and is on the Executive Committee of the CASE District 2 Cabinet. Since 2018, Darrell has been recognized for 8 awards that span from leadership to work in Diversity. He holds an associate’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania in Criminal Justice, a B.A. in Administration of Justice from University of Pittsburgh, a Masters of Strategic Leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College, and recently graduated from the Leadership Rochester program in 2021. He resides in Macedon, NY with his dog Lacy.
